Shaker Classic Bed
Chilton's modern version of a classic Shaker bed. Flat on top to give an modern edge to a simple Shaker design. This bed can be made as a standard bed which accommodates a box spring and mattress or as a platform bed which only needs a mattress. Crafted in Maine.

Solid wood construction. Reinforced inset metal hardware to secure rails with bed posts.
Conventional: This bed accommodates a standard mattress and foundation and includes 5 hardwood slats each 5"W x 3/4"D and 3 center support legs.
Platform: This bed only requires a mattress. 18 poplar slats, each 2.5" wide, run horizontally across the bed, spaced 1.5" apart. An additional center rail runs head to toe for added support.
Please note that when your new cherry wood furniture arrives, it may be lighter in color than the wood shown in the accompanying photo. New cherry wood is initially a pale, straw color and gradually darkens to a beautiful amber over time with exposure to light.

A Standard bed frame typically comes with 3-5 "slats", or pieces of wood that lay across the side rails of the bed frame. These slats are designed to hold a traditional box spring, or foundation, which sits under a mattress to provide support.
A Platform bed has either plywood or sufficient slats running down the length of the bed frame to directly support a mattress without the need for a box spring.
Platform beds typically cost a little more than Standard ones, but they avoid the need to purchase a box spring and allow for a more modern, lower profile look.

Your charge is a flat rate based upon delivery distance from Maine, and includes an unlimited number of pieces (a particularly good value for larger orders). For single item orders of smaller pieces, please call to inquire whether common carrier shipping is available. Delivery times can take between two and nine weeks, depending on location and distance from our Maine warehouse. For deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, or otherwise outside of the continental US, please call our showrooms to inquire about delivery options.

Delivery Costs for Lighting and Home Accessories
When lighting and home accessories are ordered along with furniture, the delivery expense is included in the cost of the furniture delivery. When ordered separately, the delivery cost for lighting is a flat $45 for an unlimited number of lighting pieces. The delivery cost for smaller home accessories is $9.95. For larger home accessories ordered separately that can be shipped by common carrier, please call us for a quote.
Beautiful bed. Very sturdy. Coupled with an Avocado mattress, the best sleep experience ever. My only complaint is how long it took to get it. Good things come to those who wait, I guess. ;-)

We recently ordered two shaker beds. The first bed, in all cherry, is perfect. The wood selected for the headboard are well matched and the cherry nicely figured. It is already darkening a bit and is a lovely color. For the second shaker bed, we ordered a bird's eye maple headboard with a cherry frame. This bed is outstanding. Again, the bird's eye wood in the headboard is well matched and looks fantastic. The folks at Chilton's were wonderful. We picked up our own bed frame and staff helped us load our truck and properly care for the bed frame pieces. Overall, we will continue to buy from Chilton's and recommend their products to all!

Stunning. The craftsmanship and attention to detail beat my expectations.
We spent some time at the Scarlsboro showroom, determining that if Chilton shortened the legs by 2", and installed a plywood support just above the bottom of the side rails, the bed would accommodate our existing mattress and box springs. As delivered, the legs were not shortened, and slat supports were installed 3/4" below the top of the side rails, with insufficient slats to support the mattress. We wound up throwing away the almost new box springs, and compromising on our intended design.
