Preparation Tips for Seamless Furniture Delivery







Purchasing new furniture is a milestone moment. You’ve researched, you’ve waited, and you are ready to transform your space. Before settling your furniture into its new home, read through our preparation recommendations to make delivery as seamless as possible.

White Glove Delivery

Though based in the uppermost eastern corner of the U.S., Chilton Furniture offers nationwide white glove delivery to provide customers all over the country access to our designs. This service delivers your furniture blanket wrapped, carries it into your home and assembles it as needed. As the customer, you don’t need to lift a finger. The delivery professionals position your furniture as requested, and leave you with no packaging materials to dispose of. Better yet, this service comes at a flat rate fee. Whether you order two chairs or an entire dining room set, the delivery price does not change.

Before Ordering

First, you should measure the delivery pathway to ensure all furniture will not only fit in its final resting place, but that it will make it there as well. You’ll want to measure doorways and stairways and make sure there is enough space around any corner. Some furniture can disassemble, like beds with separate headboards, footboards and rails. However, other pieces built with traditional joinery cannot be broken down. We can tell you if a particular item comes as one solid piece or in multiple sections. Taking these proactive steps prior to placing an order will prevent future disappointment.

While Ordering

We ask that you provide us with the best contact information when adding your profile into our ordering system. This will allow us to contact you to schedule delivery as quickly as possible - we promise no spam calls!

Additionally, let us know if there are limitations to the delivery location. Do you live on a private road that is only accessible during a portion of the year? Do you live in an association that requires delivery paperwork to enter? Do you live on an island? Receiving this information ahead of time will allow our team to prepare beforehand and avoid delays.

Before Delivery

Before delivery, it is important to clear the pathway for our delivery team. Ensure that the driveway is safe to pass, meaning ice, old leaves and mud are cleared from the walkways, so our delivery truck wont get stuck. It is encouraged to remove mirrors or picture frames from walls and to secure low hanging light fixtures and tripping hazards like rugs. The delivery team cannot remove footwear, so if necessary, please protect your floors or request booties to go over shoes ahead of time.

Our delivery team unfortunately cannot dispose of mattresses or help move existing furniture to another location in the home. However, we are accepting donations of used furniture in exchange for a discount voucher in partnership with Through These Doors, an organization working to end domestic violence in Cumberland County. Day of Delivery

We are here - your furniture is in our truck outside! There’s not much left to do on your end. Our delivery team will bring your furniture inside and answer any questions you may have. Make sure you or someone over the age of 18 is home to accept delivery and that all children and pets are secured in a safe place. Once the furniture is in place, look it over for quality before signing the paperwork, then sit back and enjoy the new addition to your home.

White Glove Delivery

Chilton offers nation-wide white glove delivery service, which means that your furniture will be carefully blanket wrapped, transported to your home, carried inside, and assembled, as needed. Your charge is a flat rate based upon delivery distance from Maine, and includes an unlimited number of pieces (a particularly good value for larger orders). Delivery times can take between two and nine weeks, depending on location and distance from our Maine warehouse. For deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, or otherwise outside of the continental US, please call our showrooms to inquire about delivery options.

Delivery Costs for Lighting and Home Accessories

When lighting and home accessories are ordered along with furniture, the delivery expense is included in the cost of the furniture delivery. When ordered separately, the delivery cost for lighting is a flat $45 for an unlimited number of lighting pieces. The delivery cost for smaller home accessories is $9.95 per item (Buckland Ceramics, Wooden Bowls, Shaker Peg Racks, Soy Candles, Sheepskin Throws, Woven Throws and Candle Holders).
